Tessa Carlton is a South Jersey native who currently resides in Millville with her husband, 2 daughters, and her dogs Gus and Lemmy. Tessa is a graduate of Clay college. Beginning as an intern at WheatonArts in 2013, Tessa has gained invaluable experience and mentorship from resident potter Terry Plasket, as well as support and comradery from her Wheaton coworkers. Homeschooled as a child, she loved to take field trips to farms, reenactments, and craft shows, to watch workers, artisans, and craftspeople who took joy in sharing their knowledge and skill with others. Those early experiences make her ability to now give that same experience to visitors at WheatonArts deeply meaningful.

Tessa enjoys making warm and inviting functional pottery that easily fits into everyday life. A lover of holidays and celebrating, she also makes a large variety of folk art decor. Her work can be found under the business name Tessa Cotta in the general store at Wheaton, in Cape May with the Madd Potters Studio, and at various local craft shows in the area.
