I approach art with a background in biology as well as art. After graduating with a BA in art from St. Olaf College with a minor in biology, I got a BS in Fisheries Science from the University of Minnesota and spent the next part of my career working with fish, mostly on Lake Superior. The natural world always informs my art although I seldom work in a strictly naturalistic vein.

Currently, I work in cast metal – iron, aluminum, brass and bronze – as well as kiln-formed and traditional stained glass. The Festival of Fine Craft event allows Sea Robin Studio to present metal casting to participants. They carve their own designs into sand molds that we have prepared in advance. We then pour these molds with molten aluminum on site. Participants can see their molds poured and see the castings come out of the molds. We then cut the sprues and vents from the 6”tiles, apply patina and sealer, and mail the finished tiles to their makers within a few days of the end of the Festival.
