Samantha Bartletts interest in ceramics first became ignited after helping fire the wood kiln at Wheaton Arts in Millville, NJ. She then began learning to throw in several small studios around Philadelphia and continued her journey after moving to Fairbanks, Alaska where she completed several ceramics classes at the University of Alaska and enjoyed learning more about clay and firing techniques by working with the anagama and reduction kilns. After returning to her roots in South Jersey, Samantha became an intern at Wheaton Arts where she began to pursue ceramics as a career and in 2021 she became an associate potter. Samantha makes functional pottery which typically starts on the wheel and is often hand altered to create unique forms. All of her work is fired in a salt or gas reduction kiln to cone 10. She enjoys playing with subtle patterns which reference nature on the surfaces of her salt fired pots by using flashing slips and a wax resist method and uses a variety of soft celadon style glazes in her reduction fired line of work.
