LET’S TOAST TO CHEERS: ART OF THE DRINKING GLASS
MILLVILLE, NJ (August 16, 2016 ) – Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center will host a new exhibition, Cheers: Art of the Drinking Glass, in the Gallery of Fine Craft from August 27 to October 2, 2016. Everything from functional to fantastical vessels will be featured in this exhibition and sale. Glass goblets, tumblers, and pitchers in all shapes and sizes, created using a variety of techniques, will be explored in this show. Participating artists are: Josh Simpson, Shelby Kaye & Chris Bogle, Michael Egan, Ingrid & Ken Hanson, Michael Trimpol, Monique LaJeunesse & Chris Turiello, Mike Richardson, Justin Tarducci & Timothy Underwood, Skitch Manion, Hyunsung Cho, and Minh Martin.
The history of the drinking glass goes as far back as the glassmaking process itself. In the Museum of American Glass at WheatonArts along with other art and history-based museums around the world, drinkware is included in collections that feature blown glass, as both craftsmanship and artistic vision can often both be appreciated.
“Whether someone is looking for a classic vessel or whimsical glass,” said Gallery Manager Noele Alampi, “there’s something in this show for everyone. Even though all of the pieces are drinking glasses, each one is unique. The styles and techniques of individual artists are noticeable in each piece.”
From the August 27 opening to October 2 closing, the show can be experienced by WheatonArts visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Also, Cheers: Art of the Drinking Glass will be the Gallery of Fine Craft special exhibition during the annual signature Festival of Fine Craft, which will be held on October 1 and 2.
