Join us during this one-day celebration for a vivid introduction of the unique Asian traditions associated with the Moon and Lantern Festivals of East Asia!
Narrated music and dance performances will feature Japanese Minyo dances and Taiko drumming, traditional Korean dances, the Chinese lantern dance, a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai costume show, the Chinese Peking Opera, as well as a musical performance featuring a Chinese zither and vocals.
Participate in unique experiences of old imagery and present-day creativity with special hands-on demonstrations of folk and traditional art making, including:
Japanese Shodo (calligraphy)
Japanese Origami (paper folding)
Japanese Ikebana (flower arranging)
Japanese Sakiori (rag weaving)
Myanmar Karen weaving
Philippine Parol (lantern)
Philippine Palaspas (palm weaving)
Korean Folk Painting
Visit stations presenting the Chinese “Art of Tea” and play games! The community arts project and installation of “A Hundred Lanterns” will also be on display!
The “East Asian Autumn Festival” is part of the Down Jersey Folklife Center’s “Near and Far: Arts and Cultures of East Asia” project, presented in partnership with Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission and Atlantic
County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Major support for this partnership project has been
