The business is a partnership between Carol Joannidi & Dana Hunt. A husband and wife team born from too much coffee and IT burnout. Carol is the founder, lead artisan, & metalsmith. She is classically trained in metalsmithing from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston & Tufts University. She has been creating for close to twenty years, and after owning her own store on her childhood home of Marthas Vineyard, Carol relocated to Western Massachusetts, where she soon met Dana at a local gallery. Dana was educated at a tiny midwestern college (most famous for being the home of Dave Chappelle) & UMass. With a technological and customer-focused background, Dana runs the back of the house as the Project Wrangler & Happiness Coordinator. He also assists in the studio bringing a new perspective to a classical art form.
The work handmade recycled sterling silver and gold jewelry (some with semi-precious/precious stones) that plays with the dichotomy of industrial shape and organic form. Each piece is completely designed and handcrafted in their home studio. Due to the nature of hand-fabrication each piece is unique and one of a kind. Only recycled metal is sourced from America along with ethically sourced global stones are used. All pieces that incorporate stonework use only my own bezels. No pre-purchased components are used other than a few select chains. These are only used due to the time and cost of hand fabrication would place the chains out of reach for the average clients. However, the chains still maintain the same level of quality. Proudly my work is ethical from source to completion and incorporates a diverse price point.
Dana runs the back of the house as the Project Wrangler & Happiness Coordinator and sometimes studio assistant (not to mention salad maker and coffee brewer). His background within the IT universe brings a technological edge to such a classical endeavor.
One of the tenets of Little Cat Metals is making hand fabricated ethical high design jewelry for any budget. The material cost and time spent working dictates the price. From “grab and go” earrings to the “showpiece” necklaces LCM strives to offer something for everyone.
