A Quirk of Art: Mixed Media Jewelry by Beth Taylor

My journey with jewelry began in 2002 as a creative outlet from a very stressful job. Who would have known that one simple weekend workshop would lead me to my life’s passion! But as soon as I picked up a torch and applied fire to metal, I was hooked. I found my true creative voice when I began combining found objects with more traditional materials like silver and gemstones. I strive to turn the found object into something other than what it was, and to do this in a way that creates jewelry that inspires and intrigues while being fashion-forward and easy-to-wear. I use recycled tin cans which provide the bright colors I love so much. And I have also recently begun incorporating fossils, bones, ancient pottery shards and other organic materials. My jewelry is a combination of the old and new, of contrasting textures and colors, of the fun and the (slightly) serious. Quirky, yet wearable, each piece is meant to be coveted, collected, and cherished.
