Elizabeth Perkins

Elizabeth Perkins was born in a rural farming community in Virginia by an agriculturist and a high school science teacher.  On a third grade field trip to the Jamestown Glasshouse, she became enamored with glass blowing.

After earning her BFA in sculpture from the Atlanta College of Art and studying glass at the California College of Arts and Crafts, she returned to the Jamestown Glasshouse to study as an apprentice. Following this glass apprenticeship, she began assisting other artists who worked with the material.  She received her MFA in glass and material studies under close direction of Jack Wax at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Elizabeth has studied with Boyd Sugiki, Lisa Zerkowitz, and Therman Statom at Penland School.  She was an emerging artist in residence at Pilchuck School in fall of 2004. In 2003, she was a visiting artist and lecturer at University of Hawaii at Manoa.  She was chosen to be a part of the New Glass Review 25, where her work was displayed and reviewed.

Elizabeth has been involved with galleries, art centers and museums in various ways for the last eight years.  Her roles have ranged from Art Educator at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to Interim Director at Rawls Museum Arts.
