Maria Koshenkova
Maria Koshenkova was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia. She currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. She received her M.A. at the St. Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy, attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen, Kalmar University, Sweden and studied glass on the island of Bornholm, Denmark.
She has exhibited her work internationally, including major exhibitions of contemporary glass such as The International Exhibition of Glass, Kanazawa, the Coburg Glass Prize, the Glass Prize in Lommel, Belgium. Maria’s work has also been featured in international fine art exhibitions such as the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary in Moscow Art, the Holstebro Art Museum, and the Ludwig Museum, St. Petersburg. Her works are scheduled to be shown in the LENTOS Kunstmuseum, Linz in 2014. Maria has also received a number of awards and grants including the Jutta Cuny-Franz Foundation Talent Prize and a residency from Berlin Glas. During her residency, Maria plans to make a series of objects and torsos based on already existing sculpture or objects she has collected.
“I will also be working with sound and glass in order to make the viewer act towards the object and to think metaphorically about their actual location. To show another playful side of glass where you can touch and freely move around and physically interact with the piece – which is rarely possible with glass objects”.
