Where and how long did it take you to learn how to flamework?
Everyone’s situation and schooling is different. Our resident flameworkers have had either glassblowing or flameworking in their families for generations and have continued the tradition through their own experimentation and by taking some classes locally. We are lucky to have a fantastic lampworking program in the area through Salem County Community College. For many years the program was dedicated to scientific glass blowing and has been adding more and more fine arts-related classes to their curriculum.

Where do you get the glass rods and cane?
All of our flameworkers use recycled glass to pull their own rods and cane. However, glass can be ordered from a variety of companies.

How long does it take to make a piece?
This varies greatly depending on the complexity of the piece, its size, and its annealing time.

What is your favorite thing to make?
Each artist has their own favorite and according to them, it changes.
