Sam Moyer
The Jersey Jerry Broomsquire
Mount Laurel resident, Dr. Sam Moyer, known as “The Jersey Jerry Broomsquire,” used his Ph.D. in genetics to help create machine harvestable, multicolor broomcorn. He handcrafts brooms from this broomcorn, planted on a preserved farm on 1.5 acres of the former Jersey Jerry Orchards in Burlington County, New Jersey. After harvesting, Moyer sorts and dries each bundle before binding them together to form the brush of the broom. He then attaches each brush to a handle, which has been carefully shaped from reclaimed and scrap wood.
