Learn to layer flat pieces of glass to create a project of your choosing! Our teaching artists will guide you through each step of the process, from choosing your glass to cutting and assembling your design. Use accessory glass, such as frit and stringers, to add finishing touches.

Fused pieces will be fired overnight and ready to pick up in a couple of days. You will be contacted when your piece is out of the kiln. Pieces to be slumped into a mold will take two days to fire. Firing time is dependant upon participant numbers each day.

WheatonArts cannot be held responsible for minor flaws that may occur during the assembling or firing process. A $25.00 fee will be charged to those who do not show up for their appointment. We require 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment, otherwise, it will be considered a no-show.

FUSED GLASS PANELS + PLATES

Create a decorative or utilitarian fused glass work of art! Choose from two projects, a decorative panel or a functional glass plate. This experience begins with a clear, 3mm glass sheet as the foundation of your design. Add your unique style by choosing a color palette from our selection of colorful sheet glass to build your design by cutting and arranging the glass into an abstract or representational design. Top off your design with accessory glass, such as frit and stringers. Fused glass panels can be displayed on shelves or in a window to sparkle in the sunlight. You may choose to have your project full-fused or tack fused. For plate, our staff will fire your project a second time using a slump mold. Display stands are not included; however, we can recommend where to purchase one that will fit your project.

KILN CARVED GLASS PANELS

“Kiln carving” is a fusing and slumping process where a sheet of glass covers over a design made of thick ceramic fiber paper and heated to 1520 degrees Fahrenheit in a kiln. The hot glass tightly conforms to the shape of the fiber paper as it flows around the edges, resulting in a bas-relief, textured glass panel with thicker areas dense in color and thinner areas lighter in color, causing the design to “pop.” Practiced techniques used are design sketching and X-Acto knife cutting.

FULL-FUSED GLASS PENDANTS

Design unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of glass jewelry! During this experience, choose between using pre-cut sheet glass pieces or cutting out your own. Once your design is complete, we will fire your glass to 1450 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in a smooth pendant surface, and a silver bail will be glued to the back of your pendant. The techniques practiced during this project include cutting glass and design composition.

The suncatcher is hanging in front of a gray to white gradient background. The piece has four rectangular glass pieces on each side: there is a gold rectangle at the top, a gold rectangle at the bottom, a green rectangle on the left, and a green rectangle on the right side of the circle. Each rectangle is a unique shape and size. In between these larger rectangles is a smaller light blue rectangle. The top left, middle, and bottom right corner of the suncatcher are speckled with small clear glass pieces creating a textured background. The top right and bottom left corners have a smooth gold background.
