Skitch Manion
Skitch began blowing glass when he was ten years old, and since then, he has been devoted to the material. He refined his skills while gaffing throughout the country. At the start of his career, he was instantly drawn to the craft’s significant history and technical challenge. He believes glassblowing requires a specific lifestyle centered around dedication to the craft. He has always sought perfection in craftsmanship in glassblowing, studying under some of the industry’s most highly regarded makers.
During his twenty years of experience, he has had the opportunity to work with maestros Pino Signoretto and Lino Tagliapietra, who he has long admired for their devotion and discipline in glassblowing. He aspires to be a resource as a skilled make and upholds the tradition of refined skills in glassblowing. He worked for ten years as the Studio Manager and Head Gaffer at John Pomp Studios, a furniture and lighting company based in Philadelphia, PA. Skitch joined the WheatonArts community in 2006 and became the Studio Manager from 2016 to 2021.
Skitch is a founding and current active member of the Burnt Asphalt Family and the artist collective, which shares ideologies and aesthetics, produces work collaboratively and uses the resources of collective minds and disciplines to explore the intersection between art, craft, and design. In 2014, he established Working Man Hand Made, a glass, and design company based in Philadelphia, PA. His company is dedicated to creating well-designed and well-crafted objects that are comfortable and relatable. Each contemporary hand-blown glass design is created using traditional Italian glassmaking techniques while being inspired by modern aesthetics—over 20 years of glassmaking experience and a passion for designing and influencing each collection. Working Man Hand Made offers contemporary interior decor, elegant drinkware, and custom glass designs.
