I’m a self-taught enamel artist and flame painter. Enamel is powdered glass which gets sifted onto copper. The heat fuses it to the metal and turns it into hard, shiny glass! I incorporate the technique of sgrafitto into my pieces, which is etching patterns and designs into the enamel before firing.
Flame painting is the art of painting patterns onto copper with a flame, and as the copper heats and cools, it turns different colors naturally. I then highlight the pattern with an engraving tool.
