I started working in clay in 1975 while still in high school. I went on to receive my BFA concentration in clay in 1982 from East Tennessee State University. I began selling my work at various galleries and craft shows throughout the Northeast, including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, Tennessee, Maryland, and New Jersey. Throughout the years, I have had the pleasure of sharing my craft with many students. First, as a studio tech. at Glassboro State College, then as a teacher at various Art Centers.
As I go through life, I am constantly inspired by everything around me. My current work is the culmination of spending many hours in the woods camping and hiking with my children. The leaves I use are created using real leaves. When I fire them in the kiln, they burn off, leaving just the impression behind. I often use glazed and stained surfaces to display the contrast of texture in my pieces. Recently I have found myself exploring texture in much greater detail. Using not only natural textures, I also find myself looking at everything as a possible source for my designs. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities.
