Development Student Intern

WheatonArts, located in Millville (Cumberland County), New Jersey, is a multi-faceted arts and cultural center, featuring the Museum of American Glass, Artist Studios with resident and visiting artists, Folklife and cultural programming, a strong education program for children and adults and three Museum Stores. The Center’s visitor profile ranges from local to international; diverse programs engage audiences ranging from pre-K to older adults. 

Position Title: Development Internship 
Reports To: Development Manager 
Description: WheatonArts is seeking a Development Student Intern who is available to begin training on a rolling basis. 

The internship will offer the opportunity to interact with members of the Board Development Committee and event committees, as well as a wide range of the Center’s professional staff. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an interest in the arts or nonprofit sector. The Student Intern will provide a range of research, information management, writing, and administrative support to the WheatonArts development team. The individual will gain experience in fundraising, philanthropy, relationship building, arts and culture, and the daily operations of a nonprofit organization. The Development Intern will work on projects with the entire WheatonArts development team. 


The internship may include: 

  • Entering data into and generating reports from Salesforce and other data management systems – Conducting research on potential donors, corporate partners, and volunteers
  • Preparing reports and presentations for internal and external use 
  • Drafting and editing correspondence 
  • Assisting in the execution of special events and fundraisers 
  • Attending department and organization staff meetings as well as relevant trainings 
  • Assisting with administrative tasks relating to the WheatonArts Volunteer Program
  • Assisting with processing memberships and donations 
  • Assisting with the preparation of mailings 


The successful candidate will possess: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Research skills and the ability to analyze and summarize information 
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft 2007) 
  • Desire to become familiar with fundraising and philanthropy 
  • Good interpersonal skills and attention to detail 
  • Desire to become an advocate for arts and culture 
  • Comfortable working with diverse constituencies 
  • Experience with databases and information management systems is preferred 


Qualifications: 

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program with an interest in the arts or nonprofit sector 


Internship Benefits: 

  • $500 stipend per semester
  • Acquire working knowledge of resource development practices within a nonprofit arts organization
