Special Exhibits – GlassWeekend ’15 will also intersect with EMANATION: ART + PROCESS, a year-long invitational residency and exhibition program at WheatonArts. Highlights include the Museum of American Glass Exhibition: Emanation: Art + Process (May 1, 2015 – January 4, 2016) featuring new work by Mark Dion, Paula Hayes, Carolyn Healy & John Phillips, Donald Lipski, Virgil Marti, Michael Oatman, Judy Pfaff, Jocelyne Prince, Rob Wynne, and Mark Zirpel. The Artist Reception will take place during GlassWeekend on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
Creativity Ascertained: the Art of the Fellowship highlights recent CGCA Fellows who used their time to explore their craft, the medium, and personal expression in refreshing and provocative ways. The exhibit will feature sketches, prototypes and other evidence of each featured fellow’s creative process showcasing how Wheaton, host to the fellowship, is a haven for experimentation.

The panel will illustrate collections that focus on 21st century narrative work, but will also explore how 20th century glass and 21st century glass can be mixed in the same collection to the advantage of both styles. The collections of Fred and Susan Sanders and Fred and Sharon Schomer will be showcased. Curator William Warmus will also discuss collecting in the 21st century for museums and private collectors. | |

Knowledgeable collectors have been asked to submit images of one to three works of glass art from their collection that they believe will stand the test of time. The participating collectors will make a presentation of their selected works of art and explain why they deserve to be preserved. Prints of the images and explanations will be placed in a special glass time capsule to be stored at WheatonArts until its opening in 2062, the 100th Anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement. | |

Many artists exhibiting in the Museum of American Glass exhibit, “Emanation: Art + Process”, will work alongside selected CGCA Fellows “to make, create, perform and cultivate with the medium of glass; revealed as an immediate or ephemeral expression as well as the premeditated and banked workings of object making and all the fuzzy worlds between.” | |

Contemporary craft has gained greater visibility in traditional collecting museums in recent years—as evident in innovative exhibitions and the integration of craft, design, and decorative arts with the fine arts. The panel considers the growing prominence of artists in museum installations and their relationship to the curatorial process. They will also discuss what these developments mean for the future of glass and other craft disciplines. Panelists will speak about their recent project in various museums. | |

Laitman Director of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)Artists today increasingly adopt a “cross disciplinary” approach to their work, in which moving from one medium to another is the norm. What are the implications for artistic materials such as glass, which has highly specific visual properties and technical challenges? Glenn Adamson will consider this question and others facing contemporary glass makers today. |

Luke will talk about his multidisciplinary practice as an artist, which includes the creation of sculptures, installations and live arts projects. Working internationally for 18 years, Jerram has created a number of extraordinary art projects by managing teams of engineers, craftsmen and technicians to help him realize his works. From composers to glassblowers, medieval musicologists to hot air balloonists, he explains, “I\’m only limited by my imagination in what can be produced. Anything is possible.” | |
