Glass Studio Facilities and Supplies

The following is an up-to-date list of equipment and supplies that the Glass Studio at WheatonArts has to offer renters and Fellowship Artists.

Hot Shop Equipment

  • 1000 lb. clear furnace*
  • 270 lb. clear or color furnace* (limited availability upon request)
  • A total of 20 ANNEALING OVENS in the following configurations:
    • 13 top loading ovens (all elements are mounted in side walls only):
    • 6 Front loading ovens
  • 1 electric pick-up oven inside dim. 16”L x 16”D x 6”H
  • 2 gas fired garages
  • 1 gas fired hot plate (10” x 20”)
  • 3 gas fired pipe warmers
  • 6 Reheating Chambers ranging in size from 10” ID, 19” depth (single 6” door) to 20” ID, 35” depth glory hole (6.5”, 15” layered doors)
  • 5 workstations which include:
    • Tool tables
    • Benches
    • Marvers
    • Rolling Heat Shield
    • Rolling Yolk
  • 2 lampworking stations w/ a Carlisle CC Burner and one hand torch
  • 2 automatic Pipe Coolers

Coldworking Equipment

  • 2 loose grit wheels (80 & 220)
  • 12” Diamond wheel with assortment of grinding and polishing pads
  • Horse Hair Pumice wheel station
  • Belt sander – 4” assorted wide belts
  • 2 Reciprolaps
  • Sandblaster – 120 grit
  • Covington Self-feeding Diamond saw – 24” dia. Blade
  • Heavy Duty Circular Diamond saw – 12”-24”dia. Blade
  • Toolboy Lathe with diamond grinding wheels, 1 inch shaft, variable speed
  • 1 drill press with diamond core bits 
  • Rubber aprons & boots, ear muffs

Fabrication Studio

  • Lincoln Ranger-8, generator/welder
  • Millermatic 210 mig welder with side-spool and gas cylinders
    • Main spool set up for common steel
    • Side spool set up for stainless steel
  • Oxy-acetelene cutting and welding combo-torch
  • workbench w/ vice and bench grinder
  • small anvil (20”)
  • Metal Chop Saws

Mold Shop 

  • 3 mold tables on wheels
  • 3 portable wax steamers
  • 2 large wax melting pots

Miscellaneous Studio

  • 10 Wheeled Heavy Duty Sculpture Carts with storage shelves 
  • Fork Lift (registered operators -ask someone)
  • 2 Shop Vacs/ Brooms/ Dust Pans

*We melt Spruce Pine 87 Soda Lime Crystal with Erbium, COE 96.
